The renovation of the Kenan Football Center locker rooms was completed as part of a series of renovations to the UNC-Chapel Hill athletic facilities. Summer Consultants provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services as part of a multi-discipline team. The renovation project, which provides players with a state-of-the art facility, was completed during a five-month window between seasons.
The project included provision of 120 new lockers with individual power, lighting and ventilation. Mechanical improvements included modifications to the existing system to accommodate the renovations. Diffusers were relocated and replaced. The new hydrotherapy pool was connected to existing chilled water lines. New fixtures were also provided in the restroom area.
Power was provided for the locker charging outlets as well as new color changing tape lights located at the top of the lockers and to the new Gatorade Fuel Bar located in the updated weight room. The existing fire alarm notification devices were replaced with new white devices to blend with the decor. Device locations were synchronized with the new ceiling layout including lights, tvs and diffusers to provide full coverage.
Design of the project was coordinated and approved by the North Carolina State Construction Office. The project was completed under budget and in time to begin the football season.
