Building 9 at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center serves as the hospital’s outpatient center. Summer Consultants provided mechanical and electrical engineering to renovate the main entrance, lobby and common areas, upper level approach and patient relations areas of the hospital to provide a modernized, efficient and welcoming space for patients, visitors and staff.
While the size of the space did not change, the area was reorganized and configured to provide better operational efficiency and add new spaces where possible. Escalators were replaced with a new monumental stair, and areas were refurbished with new finishes, lighting, and flooring.
Mechanical systems were modified to support the reconfigured layout including including relocation of ductwork and diffusers and new terminal boxes where required. Electrical renovations included the removal or relocation of multiple panelboards, replacement of lighting fixtures with LED fixtures, and new power, data/voice and telecom devices for new work areas.
