My interest for engineering was peaked when I worked in construction, and I saw all the things designed by engineers. It was exciting to see the ductwork, piping, and equipment coming together as it was being installed per what the engineer designed it in the plans. Between that and my drafting experience, I knew that engineering was the right path for me because I wanted to be the person that was creating or renovating these building systems.
By far, one of my favorite projects I’ve worked on at Summer Consultants is the Virginia Hospital Boiler Replacement. It’s my first look into boiler operation. These big pieces of equipment are a crucial part that is needed for hospital operation, and if not taken care of or operated correctly, they can turn catastrophic. Learning how these pieces of equipment operate and how to effectively and safely design to work efficiently, really piqued my interest in them.
